His research interests encompass geroscience, the genetics behind exceptional longevity, metformin as an anti-aging intervention, how nutrition and genetics influence lifespan, the GH/IGF-1 axis, and metabolism in mammalian aging.
Key discoveries
Encompassing over 600 centenarian families, the Longevity Genes Project has uncovered gene variants (CETP, APOC3, ADIPOQ, TSHR, IGF1R) linked to exceptional longevity and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, and dementia.
TAME trial
He conceived and developed the TAME (Targeting Aging with Metformin) multicenter trial, which investigates whether metformin can delay the onset of multiple age-related conditions at once. The trial's strategic aim is to convince the FDA to recognize aging itself as a treatable condition.

Awards
His accolades include the Irving S.
